For the Green Bay Packers, the word “finish” will be said a lot this season.

The Packers struggled with that in 2025, unable to overcome injuries to key players and ending the season on a five-game losing streak.

The team is not dwelling on the past, but hoping to learn from it.

Which is why Packers coach Matt LaFleur said the staff is making a point to communicate about it more, even during the offseason program.

“It all starts with a mindset and being conscious of that. That’s one thing we’ve definitely emphasized,” LaFleur said. “Finishing every rep. Finishing every drill. Certainly, reinforcing that in those team meetings.

“As we get into camp and into more competitive periods, it’ll be another area of emphasis as we move forward.”

Here are other takeaways from LaFleur’s June 9 news conference:

Packers working on the playbook

The big focuses during the offseason program are conditioning and installing the playbook.

While the staff is continually looking to add new wrinkles to the offense, players are also getting up to speed on the new defense under coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

“I think the offense is a little bit further ahead of the defense, in regards to just understanding the why behind what we’re doing – which is to be expected, a lot of these guys have been around for a minute,” LaFleur said. “It’s a good opportunity to build on what we’ve done.”

Cam Achord bringing energy, new ideas to special teams

When the Packers were practicing special teams during OTAs, new special teams coordinator Cam Achord had the kick returners hold a tennis ball in one hand, throw it in the air, and as they field the football attempt to catch the tennis ball.

A drill that provides competition while also working on staying focused.

Achord replaced Rich Bisaccia this offseason with the goal to revitalize special teams.

The new special-teams leader – who wears cleats during practice – has brought a new dynamic to the staff, and LaFleur has been impressed with Achord’s ability to teach and simplify things.

“I love his energy that he brings every day,” LaFleur said on Achord. “I think everybody can feel it around here. I think all the drills that he does, they relate exactly to what these guys are going to do in a game.”
