HUSKERS SOFTBALL Recap – Here Come the Bats!: #6 NEBRASKA 9 – #13 South Carolina 1 (5 inn.)
· Yahoo Sports
There’s folks out there who’ve been wondering why the Huskers aren’t hitting .346 this season and racking up run-rule victories like squirrel pelts on the Tkachuk brothers’ porch. Well, one, the non-conference portion of the schedule is insanely tough this season, the better to earn Nebraska a high enough RPI to host post-season NCAA games.
And two?

Here you go.
The Huskers began by breaking up a 0-0 tie when they exploded in the bottom of the 3rd for a 4-0 lead. A reach by error and a bunt single, by Lauren Camenzind and Jordy Frahm respectively, got runners aboard and then a Jesse Farrell triple into the right field corner brought them home. Ava Kuszak followed up by tonning one out to left and Nebraska was in business 4-0.
The Mentos went into the Coke liter when the Huskers came up in the bottom of the 5th and final inning.
Kuszak doubled down the line and Carlie Muhlbach (remember her?) promptly knocked her in. Hannah Coor, emerging from her slump, popped a 2-run homer. Then, up 8-1, they loaded the bases and Jessie Farrell socked one into right to grab that 8-run lead and end the proceeding by the NCAA mercy rule.
The hitters shone, but the pitching did their part as well as Alexis Jensen and Jordy Frahm combined to surrender only 1 run and scatter 5 hits while striking out 7. Jensen got her 4th win while “closer” Frahm earned her 4th save.
But the bats came alive as they combined for 13 hits with 2 more home runs from the Husker power plant.
There was good news with Sammie Bland in the field. Her shoulder injury will only keep her from the plate as the doc has forbidden swinging for two weeks. Hannah Coor continues to break her slump confirming Rhonda Revelle’s observations that she has been ripping it in practice and hitting hard outs in games.
The Huskers play Hawaii after a short break.
