A young Durban-born pilot – Leeché Manuel – who tragically died during flight training this weekend, shared a social media post that seemingly foreshadowed his death.
The 24-year-old was a recipient of the KwaZulu-Natal Premier’s Bursary Programme, awarded just weeks earlier.

DURBAN PILOT DIES DURING AIRCRAFT TRAINING
On Thursday, 19 February, Durban pilot Leeché Manuel and his instructor were killed when their aircraft crashed in the North West area of Sofasonke.
The routine flight was part of Manuel’s specialised aircraft training.
Weeks earlier, the 24-year-old was awarded a bursary by the KZN Premier’s office to pursue his Commercial Pilot Licence and Instructor Rating.
He had travelled from KZN to Gauteng to complete his assessment.
KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli offered his condolences to the Manuel family. He also provided financial support to the deceased pilot’s loved ones.
Of the tragedy, he said: “I wish to assure the family and our communities that this devastating loss will not deter us from our mission. The struggle for the empowerment of our youth continues.
“We will honour Leeché’s memory by remaining steadfast and unwavering in our commitment to opening doors of opportunity for young people”.
An investigation of the cause of the crash is underway.

Ten days before his death, Leeché Manuel shared a post on Instagram and TikTok that many believe foreshadowed his death.
The young pilot posted a series of clips of his views of himself flying his aircraft.
“And if one day you never hear from me again….remember me on every plane you see passing by.”
