Ryan Garcia is finally a world champion.
On Saturday night, Garcia dominated Mario Barrios to claim the WBC welterweight title in their main event bout in Las Vegas.

Garcia started red hot, dropping Barrios in the first 30 seconds of the bout with a blazing right hand, and things never really got better for Barrios from there. For 12 rounds, Garcia battered Barrios around the ring. To Barrios’ credit, he never gave up and showed supreme durability during the bout, but simply had no answer for the speed and variety of punches Garcia brought to the ring.

It was arguably the best performance of Garcia’s career, and a far cry from his underwhelming effort against Rolly Romero in May, where he lost a listless unanimous decision. And Garcia was obviously pleased with how he fought on Saturday, especially as he got to show off his little-talked-about right hand.
“Oh yeah, it was one of the ones that I wanted to show, my whole arsenal,” Garcia said during his post-fight interview. “I believe it was like a masterclass, but I should have got the knockout, to be honest. I’ve got to grade myself on that. I had him hurt many times, but I hurt my right hand.
“Guys, it wasn’t just the left hook. Y’all were saying just the left hook the whole time. Y’all saw my right hand working tonight.”
The win is Garcia’s first undisputed belt, having previously won an interim WBC lightweight title in 2021. And while a potential rematch with Devin Haney, who won the WBO welterweight title in November, could do big business, instead, “King Ryan” has his eyes set on a different opponent; one who was there ringside to watch, WBO and Ring junior welterweight champion Shakur Stevenson.
“You know who I want,” Garcia said. “He’s right there. Shakur Stevenson, let’s go. Let’s run that shit. I want to be a great champion, and I’m not scared of shit. I fought Devin Haney, I’ll fight Shakur Stevenson, let’s f*cking go! …
