12 Employees Of Western Railway Felicitated With General Manager’s Safety Award

Pradeep Kumar, General Manager (Looking After), Western Railway, felicitated 12 employees with the General Manager’s “Man of the Month” Safety Award for January 2026 at the Western Railway Headquarters, Mumbai. These employees were recognized for their exemplary alertness, dedication and commitment to duty, which played a vital role in preventing potential untoward incidents and ensuring safe train operations. The awardees were three from Bhavnagar Division, two each from Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Ratlam Division and one from Rajkot Division.
According to a press release issued by Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, two employees of Mumbai Central Division were felicitated for their alertness and prompt action. A Commercial Clerk cum Ticket Checker Neeraj Pandey of Mumbai Central Division, was honoured for his exceptional alertness while performing coach-manning duty in Golden Temple Mail. He noticed smoke and fire emanating from the wheels of a coach due to brake binding and immediately informed the concerned control authorities. Considering passenger safety, he pulled the alarm chain to stop the train and extinguished the fire using a fire extinguisher, thereby averting a potentially hazardous incident.

Sanjay V. Samudre, working as Technician at Mumbai Central Division, was also awarded for his vigilance. While conducting a rolling-in examination of a train at Nandurbar, he detected a serious welding defect and abnormal expansion in a wagon body, which posed a major safety risk. He immediately informed the concerned officials and ensured the defective wagon was marked sick and detached, thus preventing a possible accident and ensuring safe train operations.
The awardees from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ratlam, Rajkot and Bhavnagar divisions were also honoured for their exceptional presence of mind, sharp observation and swift action in detecting serious safety-related defects such as rail fractures, hot axles, hanging parts, OHE abnormalities, track defects and equipment irregularities. Their collective efforts significantly contributed to maintaining a high level of safety across Western Railway.
Western Railway commends all the awardee employees for their exemplary devotion to duty and strong safety consciousness. Their actions not only prevented potential mishaps but also reinforce Western Railway’s unwavering commitment towards safe and reliable train operations, while serving as an inspiration for all railway staff.
