Bengals trade targets: Updated list after NFL combine buzz

· Yahoo Sports

The Cincinnati Bengals might just make a trade or two this offseason to accelerate the defensive rebuild.

Normally, that sort of statement would be met with an eye roll. Fair enough: Historically, the Bengals value draft assets far too highly to pull off notable trades.

But this offseason feels a little different.

Zac Taylor and Duke Tobin have been very blunt about the roster not being good enough last season, alluding to a breakdown between the scouting department and what new defensive coordinator Al Golden needed.

Since, Taylor, Tobin and even Golden have hinted at adding veterans to the defense.

That can happen in free agency, of course. But we’d be remiss not to mention a few trade candidates who might fit the bill, too.

Bengals’ updated trade targets to consider

S Minkah Fitzpatrick

We spitballed the idea of the Bengals trading for Minkah Fitzpatrick a few weeks ago when word first broke that the Miami Dolphins might move him. He’s 29 and a top 10 safety at PFF, based on last year. A $15.6 million cap hit in 2026 isn’t exactly worrisome, either. The Bengals have been a mess since they let Jessie Bates get away. This wouldn’t be a perfect one-to-one fix, but it would be a massive upgrade.

DL A'Shawn Robinson

The Panthers have signed off on A'Shawn Robinson seeking a trade. He ranked 42nd out of 134 at his position last year and has one year left on his current deal. TJ Slaton, for comparison, ranked 116th on the same list. Slaton is a cut candidate, while BJ Hill will stick. They desperately need to get better on the rotation while younger guys develop.

DT Gervon Dexter

While far pricier than Robinson, Gervon Dexter would be a huge get for the Bengals. He’s still just 24 years old and had six sacks last year. The former second-round pick has one year left on his rookie deal and would deepen the rotation.

Edge Kayvon Thibodeaux

Kayvon Thibodeaux, a first-round pick at fifth overall in 2022, has been all over the place. He had 11.5 sacks in 2023, but that dropped to 5.5 in 2024 and just 2.5 over 10 games last year. Still, he’s going into a contract year with something to prove and former top-five picks with possible upside don’t become available often. Throwing him in a rotation with Shemar Stewart and Myles Murphy would be interesting, if nothing else.
