Vikings expected to move on from two starters when league year starts

· Yahoo Sports

The Minnesota Vikings are dealing with some salary cap issues, and that is even after the league announced it went up in the last week. So in order to be able to make moves this offseason, the team has to make some tough decisions. On Sunday, two of those tough moves were reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Running back Aaron Jones and defensive lineman Javon Hargrave were mentioned in the report by Schefter. He wrote, "Vikings have informed running back Aaron Jones and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave that, barring a trade, they will be released at the start of the league year this month." The moves would save the team a combined $18.65 million in salary cap space.

Both moves were expected, but they are still interesting to see confirmed. Aaron Jones battled injuries in 2025, but looked like he had a decent amount of gas left in the tank with a productive 2024 season for the team. The Vikings will now have Jordan Mason on the roster, who they traded for last offseason, but they are expected to bring in another running back at some point.

In the case of Javon Hargrave, the emergence of Jalen Redmond pushed him to be the odd one out. On top of his salary cap number being just under $11 miullion, it seemed destined he would be looking for a fresh start in 2026.
