Martin O’Neill’s side had been preparing to face the Dons last month, but the fixture was postponed after a late pitch inspection ruled the surface unplayable just hours before kick off leaving a lot of the travelling Celtic support having to do u-turns.

After their 2-2 draw with theRangers at the weekend, Celtic head into the rescheduled trip to Aberdeen knowing a victory would move them move above their Glasgow rivals into second place while also narrowing the gap to leaders Hearts to five points.

The Scottish FA has confirmed that Nick Walsh will officiate Wednesday night’s clash at Pittodrie.

He will be supported by assistants Daniel McFarlane and Colin Drummond, while Chris Graham will handle VAR duties from Clydesdale House alongside Duncan Williams.

Walsh has overseen three Celtic matches so far this season. His first appointment came in November’s Premier Sports League Cup semi-final against the Ibrox club at Hampden, where O’Neill’s men ran out 3-1 winners after extra time courtesy of strikes from Callum McGregor and Callum Osmand.

Walsh was also in charge of Celtic’s 2-1 victory away to Hibernian later that month, before refereeing their most recent 4-0 home win over Dundee United at Celtic Park in January.

The experienced UEFA referee has taken charge of three Aberdeen fixtures during the current campaign. These include their opening-day loss to Hearts at Tynecastle, a goalless draw with Livingston and their visit to Ibrox, where they were beaten 2-0.

Without a permanent manager, Aberdeen are toiling just now. They were beaten 1-0 by the Jambos at Tynecastle at the weekend. Peter Leven’s side’s hopes of making the top six are now all but over after Falkirk hammered Kilmarnock 5-1, taking advantage of Aberdeen’s defeat in the capital.

They do have a Scottish Cup quarter-final to look forward to this weekend against Dunfermline at East End Park as they aim to retain the trophy after beating Celtic in the final last May.
