Oakland's early lead did not last long, as Texas A&M bounced back to secure a 6-3 win in the series opener against the Golden Bears at Blue Bell Park in Bryan-College Station, Texas, on Friday afternoon.
After pitching a 1-2-3 inning in the first inning, starting left-hander Shane Sdao gave up a solo homer from first baseman Carter Hain in the second, which gave Oakland momentum. The Golden Bears plated two more runs in the inning to take a 3-0 lead over the No. 22 Aggies.

Center fielder Caden Sorrell responded in the bottom of the third with a massive three-run homer to tie the game. The junior from Highland Village continues to be an integral contributor in the Aggies' lineup, hitting .400 with 24 RBI and seven homers through 12 appearances. Sorrell's homer marked his 100th-career hit, and it was the most important at-bat of the day for Texas A&M.

After a quiet fourth inning, first baseman Gavin Grahovac gave Texas A&M its first lead of the contest with a two-out, two-RBI double to right field to score Sorrell and left fielder Terrence Kiel II.
From there, it was a pitcher's duel between the two clubs, with a combined nine runners left on base and neither team hitting above .250 in the contest.
Sdao won that competition by bouncing back after giving up three runs in the second inning by striking out a career-high eight hitters and helping seal the victory in the series opener against the Golden Bears. With the win, the Aggies improve to 12-1 on the season. The program's only loss in 2026 so far came against No. 1 UCLA at Globe Life Field in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series in Arlington last weekend.

With inclement weather shifting the weekend schedule, the Maroon and White will face a quick turnaround to play the second game of the Oakland Series on Friday. The Aggies had some struggles on the base paths, leaving seven on base in Game 1, which must be addressed if they want to claim the series win over Oakland this evening.
Next up, Texas A&M will face Oakland in the second contest of the Friday doubleheader at 6 p.m. CT. Game 2 between the Aggies and Golden Bears will be broadcast live on SEC Network+.
