Howard says Chelsea already have their own Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah’s career really took off after he left Stamford Bridge, but Tim Howard thinks Chelsea may already have a superstar of their own.

Even though he became one of the league’s best players, Salah never found his footing at Chelsea. He was part of the squad during Eden Hazard’s time at the club.

John Terry once said that Salah didn’t stand out in training under Jose Mourinho, but there have been plenty of times since then when Chelsea could have used a player like him.

Cole Palmer has emerged as a key figure for Chelsea, and Tim Howard believes he can have the same kind of influence Salah had for so many years at Liverpool.

Speaking on the Unfiltered Podcast, Howard said: “I had him sort of picked as like the best player in the Premier League, which, you know. It’s a wild thing to say, but if you go back like a season and a half where he scored 20 plus goals and you’re thinking he can easily be, you know, what Mo Salah is to Liverpool, like Cole Palmer is that to Chelsea.

“I mean, two massive clubs. So like, so it’s not far-fetched to say he is or has the ability to be the best player in the Premier League.

“I mean, he’s shown that, he’s shown that. Now can you do that on a consistent basis?”

Former USMNT goalkeeper Tim Howard believes Cole Palmer has the potential to become for Chelsea what Mohamed Salah has been for Liverpool.

Speaking on the Unfiltered Podcast, Howard suggested Palmer could provide the same level of goal contributions that made Salah one of the Premier League’s most influential players over the past decade.

Howard said: “I had him picked as maybe the best player in the Premier League, which is a wild thing to say. But if you look back a season and a half, when he scored 20-plus goals, you start thinking he could be what Mo Salah is to Liverpool. Cole Palmer could be that for Chelsea.”

He added that Palmer has already shown flashes of that level, but the key question remains whether the England international can maintain that standard consistently.

Despite an injury-hit campaign, Palmer’s recent goal against Aston Villa took him to nine Premier League goals this season, underlining his continued importance to the Blues.

He has also developed a strong attacking partnership with Joao Pedro, who currently sits among the league’s top scorers this season.

With Chelsea managing his fitness carefully, Palmer is expected to be rested when the Blues travel to face Wrexham in the FA Cup.

His next major appearance could come in the Champions League Round of 16 against PSG, where another standout display on a big stage would further strengthen his growing reputation.
