2026 NFL free agency: Bills tried to re-sign David Edwards before departure to Saints

The Buffalo Bills had one of the NFL's most consistent offensive lines last season.
In 2025, Pro Football Focus ranked the unit the sixth-best in the NFL. It makes sense the team would want to keep the whole group in Buffalo.

Two big pieces were pending free agents this offseason. The Bills only managed to keep one of them.
Despite finding a way to re-sign Connor McGovern, David Edwards departed. He signed with the New Orleans Saints.
Even so, Edwards admitted he still was considering staying in Buffalo until the end. Upon being introduced in New Orleans, he told Saints media that the Bills were still "in the mix" before he eventually left:

"I loved my time in Buffalo and it was one of the most impactful times, not only in my career but my life. Just being able to appreciate everything."
While Edwards, 29, may have had part of his heart in Buffalo, it was likely some dollars he could not say no to.
Edwards landed a four-year, $61 million deal with the Saints. Of that, $45M was guaranteed.
A team tight against the 2026 salary cap like the Bills probably had a hard time competing with that.
