The fourth-ranked Yellow Jackets piled up 12 hits, including seven for extra bases and three home runs, while Clemson managed just one hit. The loss also snapped Clemson’s 13-game home winning streak and dropped the Tigers to 15-3 overall and 0-1 in ACC play. Georgia Tech improved to 16-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Clemson’s offense struggled all night against Georgia Tech starter Tate McKee. The right-hander worked six innings and allowed just one hit while walking five. At one point he retired the Tigers in order on only three pitches during the third inning. Clemson finished the night stranding five runners, including a bases-loaded opportunity.
Starter Aidan Knaak looked sharp early, striking out five of the first six outs and finishing with eight strikeouts. But Georgia Tech’s lineup eventually broke through in the third inning. Carson Kerce started the rally with a double before Drew Burress sent a two-run homer over the wall in right field to open the scoring.
The Yellow Jackets added to the lead moments later when Vahn Lackey blasted a two-run homer to center, pushing the advantage to 4-0.
Georgia Tech’s offense kept rolling in the fifth. Burress led off the inning with his second home run of the night, and the Yellow Jackets followed with more hits and capitalized on a Clemson error to extend the lead to 9-0. Knaak exited after four innings, allowing nine hits and eight runs while striking out eight.
Justin LeGuernic came on in relief and worked the final three innings, giving up two runs on three hits.
