Former boy scout leader, 73, accused of historical sexual assaults in York Region

A 73-year-old Georgina man has been accused of historical sexual assaults involving children in York Region while he was a boy scout leader.

And investigators with York Regional Police are concerned about the possibility of additional alleged victims.

Police said several alleged victims came forward earlier this year to report details of sexual assaults dating back to the 1970s. At the time of the alleged assaults, police said the complainants were all under 16 years old.

Investigators with the Special Victims Investigation Unit arrested Aubrey Wayne Stentiford on Wednesday. He was charged with four counts each of indecent assault of a male and gross indecency.

Leader with Newmarket Boy Scouts

Cops said the accused, commonly known as Wayne, worked as a leader with the 6th Newmarket Boy Scouts in Newmarket from the early 1970s until approximately 1976.

At the time of the alleged incidents, he also had connections to the Kawartha Lakes Region, cops added.

In addition to his work with Boy Scouts Canada, Stentiford was a school bus driver in York Region at the time of his arrest.

Investigators released his photo urging anyone else with information regarding this investigation to come forward.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature and can be reported at any time because there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences. Offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
