Former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Edmilson Dove has opened up about his departure from the club last year, describing it as a natural parting of ways.

The 31-year-old Mozambican international spent three seasons at Naturena before leaving when his contract expired at the end of the campaign.

Speaking to Soccer Beat, Dove reflected on the moment he learned his time with Amakhosi had come to an end, revealing he was away on international duty at the time.

“My contract was expiring at the end of the season, and I was with the national team. Right after the season ended, I went straight into camp because we had a friendly against South Africa,” he said.

“In football, you’re bound to come and go, and I think it was the right time for both me and the club to part ways. If there had been a possibility for me to stay, it could have happened.”

Dove also shared how important it was for him to return to the club and bid farewell to his teammates after confirming his exit.

“I had the opportunity to go back after I found out my contract was not going to be renewed, just to say my goodbyes. I spent three beautiful years at the club and, despite the highs and lows, we built a strong bond,” he added.

The defender further expressed his respect for Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr., who informed him of the club’s decision.

“I found out through the sporting director, someone I have a lot of respect for,” said Dove.

The 31-year-old defender left the club last year in June after winning the Nedbank Cup.
