The major championship, which Wie West won in 2014, will take place at The Riviera Country Club in California in June.
The American is a five-time winner on the LPGA Tour, but last appeared on the course at the 2023 US Women’s Open.
Wie West missed the cut at Pebble Beach that year, falling well short of the heroics she produced at Pinehurst to lift the trophy in 2014.
The 36-year-old is now using her eligibility from that success to compete in this year’s event, much to the delight of her PGA Tour counterpart Justin Rose.
Justin Rose delighted by Michelle Wie West’s US Women’s Open return
Wie West wrote on her Instagram: “With one final year of eligibility from my victory in 2014 and the Championship headed to an iconic venue that means so much to me, I am excited to announce that I’ll be teeing it up at the U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera in June!”
And 13-time PGA Tour champion Rose, who won the men’s US Open in 2013, commented: “Amazing news… let’s go [Michelle Wie West].”
Many other profile names have also been celebrating the news, including former tennis star Genie Bouchard, who commented: “Let’s gooooooo.”
Michelle Wie West continues commitment to golfing return
Fans at the US Women’s Open will be counting down the days until they get to see their former favorite in action.
She’ll undoubtedly be motivated by her missed cut in 2023, which incidentally represents the last year an American lifted the trophy.
Allisen Corpuz was the champion back then, with Yuka Saso and Maja Stark emerging as the winners in the years since.
Now, the US Women’s Open is heading to the iconic Riviera Country Club for the very first time, where Wie West will be targeting a second career major win.
It continues her clear dedication to return to golf after a break to focus on her family and entrepreneurial ventures, with the American having also recently committed to joining the WTGL.
Mirroring the TGL, which comprises PGA Tour stars playing in an indoor league, the inaugural WTGL season will get underway at the end of 2026.
Wie West has joined many high-profile names in signing up, including Lexi Thompson, Lydia Ko, Charley Hull and current world number one Jeeno Thitikul.
