Record collection and amnesty scheme
The record collection, achieved between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, marks the highest annual recovery since the civic body’s inception. Officials said the surge was aided by the 'Abhay Yojana' implemented from March 10 to March 31, offering a 50% waiver on late payment penalties, along with sustained follow-ups and extended working days at tax collection centres.
“NMMC’s focus on transparency, technology, and citizen convenience has significantly improved compliance. We are grateful to citizens for their cooperation, which made this record possible,” said Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde.
Ward-wise performance
According to civic data, Nerul ward topped collections with Rs 182.09 crore, followed by Koparkhairane at Rs 163.40 crore and Ghansoli at Rs 150.11 crore. In March alone, 28,811 property owners paid Rs 192.81 crore, contributing substantially to the annual total.
Technology-driven recovery efforts
The property tax department, under the guidance of Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Commissioner Dr Amol Palve, adopted a data-driven strategy, including analytics-based targeting of defaulters and AI-powered calling systems. Awareness campaigns through SMS, WhatsApp, and RCS messaging further boosted compliance.
Payment trends and response
Of the 2,25,576 taxpayers who paid property tax during the year, nearly 61% opted for online payments, while 39% paid offline at collection centres.
