Former Phoenix Mercury star Tangela Smith and Amiee Book join coaching staff

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Mercury have added familiarity and a forward-thinking perspective to their coaching staff on Wednesday, naming former franchise standout Tangela Smith as an assistant coach and Amiee Book as head video coordinator.
Smith’s return to Phoenix brings organizational experience and knowledge that directly links to the club’s championship identity. A key contributor during the Mercury’s 2007 and 2009 title runs, Smith is familiar with the standards of an elite team and can translate that to the new generation through her coaching.

With years of collegiate coaching experience, her impact this season will center on player development and restoring a culture rooted in accountability and versatility.

Book’s addition reflects a different but equally important direction. As head video coordinator, she brings a modern approach to preparation. Her background across the professional and developmental levels strengthens scouting, communication and in-game support through film analysis.

Book previously held video coordinator and coaching roles with the Minnesota Lynx, Indiana Pacers and Noblesville Bloom — the Pacers’ NBA G League affiliate.
