Elissa Caricofe had a home run and a double in four plate appearances, knocking in six runs for Buffalo Gap in a 13-3 win over Alleghany in Shenandoah District softball Thursday, April 9.

Buffalo Gap (6-0, 4-0 Shenandoah) broke open a three-run game with seven runs in the fifth inning to end the game. Caricofe's homer came with bases loaded in the fifth, driving in four runs.

Her double came in the second, driving in a run with a hit down the left field line to help Gap rally from a run down to take the lead for good. Paige Showalter also singled in the second to score a run.

Bailey Tribble pitched all five innings for the Bison, giving up three hits and three unearned runs and striking out two in the win. Tribble also went 2-for-3 with three runs scored for Gap.

Faith Showalter, Mckenzie Woods and Emarie Smiley all had two hits in the win for Buffalo Gap.

Madison Lowry, Ava Howard and Paige Webb each had a hit for Alleghany (5-3, 3-2 Shenandoah) in the loss.

Berkstresser, Phillips pitch Gladiators to win

Riverheads' Jackson Berkstresser and Brody Phillips combined for a three-hit shutout, beating Fort Defiance 3-0 in Shenandoah District baseball Thursday, April 9.

Berkstresser pitched the first three innings, giving up a hit and striking out four. Phillips went the final four innings, picking up the win, striking out six and walking none for Riverheads (6-1, 4-1 Shenandoah).

Chase Donathan singled in the bottom of the fourth for Riverheads and moved to third after single by Cason Croft. Donathan then scored the game's first run on a wild pitch. Croft then scored on a Mason Miller groundout before Kendal Edwards picked up the final run, scoring from third on a wild pitch.

Noah Dulaney suffered the loss for Fort Defiance (2-4, 2-3 Shenandoah) pitching four innings of two-hit ball, striking out five and walking two.

Freshmen lead unbeaten Draft to big win

Stuarts Draft won its fourth straight match and remained unbeaten on the season with a 3-2 win over Staunton in Shenandoah District girls soccer Thursday, April 9.

Stuarts Draft (4-0-2, 4-0-2 Shenandoah) got goals from freshmen Ellie Weatherholtz, Alexis Waite and Ella Moody. Freshman Kendall Clark also added a pair of assists while Waite recorded one assist in Draft's win.

Draft and Waynesboro remain the only unbeaten teams in district play. The two will meet Tuesday, April 14 at Stuarts Draft.
