Galaxy Unveils Statue of Club Legend, UCLA Alum Cobi Jones

The Los Angeles Galaxy officially unveiled a statue honoring franchise legend Cobi Jones before their 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake on Sunday at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images“I am truly humbled by this incredible honor,” Jones said, per LA Galaxy Communicationsin January. “Starting out as a five-year-old who loved soccer, it grew into a passion that allowed me to represent the United States and play for the best fans here in Los Angeles with the Galaxy. This statue dedication is a sign of the unwavering support I’ve had from not just my family, but the entire LA Galaxy community – teammates, coaches, staff and most importantly the fans. This moment is more about them than it is about me.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have played the game that I love and done so with such incredible people along the way. I hope this statue serves as a reminder to future generations that with hard work, dedication, and a love for the game, anything is possible,” Jones added.
The Galaxy announced it would build a statue honoring Jones back in January 2025. Los Angeles filmed a series called “Carving an Icon” to show the process of building the statue.
Jones is the third Galaxy player, alongside David Beckham and Landon Donovan, to be honored in Legends Plaza.
Jones Is A UCLA Alum
Jones played for UCLA men’s soccer from 1988-91 and was a starter all four seasons after joining the team as a walk-on. He led the Bruins to win the NCAA Championship in 1990 and was a Second-Team All-American as a senior in 1991.
He was named UCLA’s Offensive MVP twice in 1989 and 1991. Jones totaled 23 goals and 37 assists throughout his career at UCLA and set a school record with 18 assists during his senior season.
Jones was inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 2002.

After leaving UCLA, Jones went on to play all 12 seasons of his MLS career with the Galaxy. He was part of the franchise’s inaugural team in 1996 and scored the first goal in franchise history on April 13 at the Rose Bowl.
Jones also was a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team and played in three FIFA World Cups. The four-time MLS All-Star was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2011.
