Innisfil man charged in arson

ARSON CHARGES: York Regional Police have charged an Innisfil man with multiple offences following an arson in Whitchurch-Stouffville.
On Sunday at 3:18 p.m., police and Central York Fire Services attended the area of Warden Avenue and Aurora Road for reports of an industrial building on fire.

Once on scene, a large amount of smoke was observed to be billowing out from the premise which sustained damage that is estimated to be up to $1 million.
Fortunately, there were no injuries.
A man was arrested at the scene and Filipe Da Silva, 59, of Innisfil has been charged with arson, mischief – damage to property exceeding $5,000, utter threats – property and two counts of utter threats- person.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.

MARKHAM ASSAULT : York Police is thanking the public for their help in identifying a male suspect wanted in connection with an assault on a youth in the Markham.
Cops say on April 13, 2026, at approximately 7:20 a.m., an assault occurred on board a York Region Transit bus, in the area of Yonge Street and Royal Orchard Boulevard.
The victim, a female youth, was approached and assaulted by an adult male but not physically injured.
On Friday, Abi Ilyas 40, of no fixed address was charged with one count of assault.
Investigators are releasing his photo as they believe there may be additional victims and anyone with information is encouraged to contact police.
