Sgt. Brandon Malcolm, a highly respected officer who served his country as well as his community, died in a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 401 in Cobourg on April 27 – a fatality that remains under investigation.

A funeral service attended by the 33-year-old’s widow and other family members, friends, fellow OPP officers and first responders from across Canada begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre, located at 750 D’Arcy St.

“While the service itself will not be open for the general public to attend in person, a designated area will be available to view the funeral cortege as it arrives at the Cobourg Community Centre,” the OPP said in a statement.

Members of the public can also watch the funeral via livestream on the OPP YouTube channel at youtube.com/ontarioprovincialpolice/live.

FUNERAL CORTEGE TO COMMUNITY CENTRE

The public is invited to observe the funeral cortege, which began at approximately 8:30 a.m., as it travels from the funeral home in Oshawa to the Cobourg Community Centre.

The funeral cortege travelled east on Hwy. 401 from Stevenson Rd. S. in Oshawa, exiting at Division St. in Cobourg, and was scheduled to arrive at the Cobourg Community Centre around 9:30 a.m.

Members of the public who wish to show their support were invited join first responders in showing their respect from one of the overpasses along Hwy. 401 between Stevenson Rd. S. and Division St.

The OPP said members from the Ontario Provincial Police and other attending services would begin marching around 9 a.m. from Kerr St., north on D’Arcy St., to the Cobourg Community Centre.

And first responders will position themselves along D’Arcy Street to honour the funeral cortege as it passes.

Members of the public are welcome to gather on the sidewalk along the west side of D’Arcy St. to observe the procession as it makes its way around the Cobourg Community Centre.
