· Yahoo Sports

The Kansas City Royals have played well in recent action. Bobby Witt Jr. has made a significant impact. Witt was named the American League Player of the Week for this past week after the Royals star hit .407 to go along with a 1.263 WHIP. He also scored seven runs, hit three home runs, and recorded four RBIs and two stolen bases.

Witt, 25, is one of the best players in the game of baseball. He is one of the most electric players in the sport. Witt is now hitting .302/.372/.475 across 41 games played. The shortstop has hit five home runs, 11 doubles and a triple this year as well. His 2.8 WAR currently leads the league.

Witt was an All-Star in 2024 and 2025. Additionally, Witt finished second in American League MVP voting in 2024 and fourth in 2025. Witt also earned a Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger Award in each seasons.

Witt is on track for a similar season in 2026. His home run production has declined a bit, but Witt could still end up reaching 30 homers this year. Even if he hits 25 or so long balls in 2026, he could have a tremendous overall year.

In fact, Witt could end up earning his first MVP this season. The Royals are looking to compete and if Witt can help them reach the playoffs his chances will only increase.

What's Next for the Royals?

The Royals earned a 2-1 series win against the Detroit Tigers in their most recent series. They won the first two contests of the series before the Tigers won on Sunday. Nevertheless, it was still a good series for a Kansas City ball club that is trending in a promising direction.

At 19-22, Kansas City is now in fourth place in the American League Central standings. The team is only two games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the standings, however.

Overall, they are 19-22 over their past 10 games.

The Royals will play another American League Central rival this week in the Chicago White Sox. It is a three-game series between the ball clubs. The White Sox are 19-21, so it should be three competitive games between the teams.

The first contest of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST on Tuesday night as the Royals look to continue playing well.
