On Monday around 11:30 p.m., Durham Regional Police responded to an impaired driving call in the area of Taunton Rd. W. and Westney Rd. N.

Cops had received reports of a shortened school bus driving erratically before its driver attempted to pull into a McDonald’s drive-thru and collided with the drive-thru barrier.

Police say officers arrived on scene and successfully stopped the vehicle. They allege the driver showed signs of impairment and he was taken into custody without incident.

Upon further investigation, officers determined that the school bus — which had sustained exterior damage — had been entered “unlawfully” while in a bus yard in North York and stolen, possibly colliding with other parked unoccupied busses in the getaway.

In addition, cops say radios and keys to other vehicles in the yard were stolen at the time.

Police also allege that during their investigation, the suspect provided officers with a false name. He was subsequently identified and charged.

Tanner Jon Davis, of no fixed address, faces charges of impaired operation, impaired operation – exceed, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, obstruct police, and three counts of breach probation.

Anyone with cellphone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1905.
