After a difficult start to his Man United career, the Brazilian has become a crucial part of Michael Carrick’s side. Now, he leaves off the back of an impressive final season, with nine goals and two assists in the Premier League this season.

But now, attention turns to Man United’s plans to replace the 34-year-old. A number of names have been mentioned with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton at the top of that list.

Former Man United defender Wes Brown spoke exclusively to EPL Index and shared his thoughts on the club’s midfield dilemma…

Who Should Man United Sign?

Brown was clear on who he believes should replace Casemiro in Carrick’s midfield.

“I think Anderson is better,” said Brown, “I do really like Wharton and they are different types of players, but I really like Anderson and I think he is a bit better.”

“He [Anderson] would likely cost more, because he is wanted by more clubs,” said Brown.

“Wharton started this season very well, but has slightly dropped off, in my opinion,” continued Brown, “Whereas Anderson has been fantastic throughout the whole season.”

Could Man United Land Anderson?

As Brown mentions, competition for Elliot Anderson is going to be incredibly high. Premier League rivals like Manchester City and Liverpool are also reportedly interested in a move for the Nottingham Forest star.

Another interesting layer is the upcoming World Cup. Anderson is almost nailed on to be part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the tournament.

The 23-year-old has been a regular fixture in Tuchel’s side in recent friendlies. Should he impress at the World Cup, then you can expect his valuation to rise up the region of £100m.

At that point, Manchester United would have a huge decision to make.
