Rutgers and Syracuse last met during the pandemic season in 2020-21. The Scarlet Knights earned a win at Jersey Mike’s Arena. The two met prior to that in 2012-13, which was their final year in the Big East. The last meeting on a neutral court came in the quarterfinals of the 2005 Big East Tournament.
Steve Pikiell and the Scarlet Knights continue to schedule games against high-profile coaches. Gerry McNamara took the Syracuse job this offseason after a successful tenure at the helm of Siena. The former standout on the court is looking to return the Orange to prominence on the sideline. Rutgers will also face Rick Pitino and St. John’s at Madison Square Garden during a preseason exhibition.
Rutgers now has seven non-conference games on the schedule. It will face Army, Bryant, and Seton Hall at home. Syracuse is the fourth neutral site game on the schedule as Rutgers will play three during the Player Eras Eight in Las Vegas.
