Helldivers 2 Is Getting a Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond

· IGN

Helldivers 2 is getting a Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond later this year, which finally makes one of its most-requested crossovers a reality.

Ever since Helldivers 2’s explosive launch, fans of Warhammer 40,000 have wondered about a crossover. And it’s easy to see why — Helldivers 2 is the perfect fit for, let’s say, a squad of four Guardsmen of the Astra Militarum pushing back against the alien forces of the Automatons (Necrons) and the Terminids (Tyranids). I mean, Helldivers 2 and Warhammer 40,000 both revolve around cannon fodder doing the dirty work of a fascist regime, right?

In the video, below, Helldivers 2 game director Mikael Eriksson said the two worlds “fit perfectly together,” and that Arrowhead is “full of die hard Warhammer fans.” We don’t know exactly what to expect from the Warbond, but we’re promised more information later this year.

Warhammer 40,000 is something Arrowhead is often asked about in interviews, and by that I mean that I have asked the team about it in interviews. In April last year, I asked Alex Bolle, production director on Helldivers 2, about a Warhammer 40,000 collab, and he said there was discussions being had. "Obviously Warhammer 40,000 is something that a lot of guys internally love to death," he said at the time. "So the devs are discussing, the devs are proposing stuff, and the hype is building. So these are discussions internally that we are having. Warhammer 40,000, I can't really tell you. Maybe. Who knows? We'll see!"

Indeed, in 2024, Arrowhead's Johan Pilestedt published an extended list of IPs he “really would love to do a take on," and Warhammer 40,000 was right up there alongside the likes of Aliens, Starship Troopers, and Terminator.
