Kimmich was asked about the pressure of such a game and the Germany international said that such a thing is not exactly what many would think.
“Viewed from the outside, it’s only successes and titles that count. But when you’re actually in the thick of it and look back over the last few years, we’ve consistently played football at a high level. We’ll do everything we can to win tomorrow’s match. That said, I don’t judge a season on the basis of a single game. I get the feeling that the team enjoys coming to training every day and everyone is keen to play football together,” Kimmich said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “That’s very valuable for our development. Whether we win or lose is something we can influence to a certain extent, but I’m far from measuring success solely by titles. But when you look back in ten years’ time, you want to have won as many titles as possible. So we’ll give it our all tomorrow.”
The experience of playing in the DFB-Pokal is important for Kimmich, even if he will not judge the success of the season based on the result of this game.
“Generally speaking, it’s always something very special to come here. You can tell in the club, the team and the family that absolutely everyone is looking forward to it – partly because we haven’t been here for a while. We’re going to give it our all,” said Kimmich.
