As we get closer to the summer months, the 2026 MLB Draft is drawing near. And with college conference tournaments happening, the big board could shuffle around a bit.

The Texas Rangers were awarded the No. 16 pick, which is just a few spots off where they drafted last year. In 2025, they took California prep shortstop Gavin Fien 12th overall.

Taking a high school player in the first round was something they had not done since the 2018 draft, when they grabbed RHP Cole Winn at No. 15. And with the number of highly touted prep players in this class, there's a good chance they can take another one this year.

Eric Booth Jr. is likely the first prep outfielder who will be drafted in the first round, but he might not be the only. Georgia prep outfielder Trevor Condon has really turned some heads lately, climbing up the mock draft boards.

He has a sweet swing from the left side and the speed to be a menace on the basepaths. And with this, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter could see the Rangers taking a gamble on the youngster in the first round.

"With a 60-hit, 70-speed profile, Condon has drawn comparisons to Brett Gardner, Sal Frelick and former Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Lenny Dykstra this spring for both his tools and his all-out style of play. He has some serious helium right now and could be the second high school outfielder taken after Eric Booth Jr. somewhere in the middle of the first round."

There isn't much thought about whether Condon will be able to stick in center field at the next level or not. He has a high baseball IQ and great speed to stick there in professional baseball.

If there is one thing he could work on, it would be his power. He can launch baseballs well over the fence, especially in batting practice, but needs that to translate into games more.
