It's been a strange and frustrating season for the Chicago Cubs so far in 2026. A few weeks ago, they looked unstoppable. But now, after losing 10 straight, the Cubs look helpless.
To turn things around, the Cubs need their offense to step up. With the pitching staff banged up, the offense needs to perform better.
The Athletic's Levi Weaver is predicting that the Cubs get offensive turnarounds from two of three stars this season. Two of Alex Bregman, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Dansby Swanson are predicted to turn things around over the next few months.
Cubs predicted to get offensive turnaround from two of three struggling stars
"In the next two months: Two turnarounds and a problem," Weaver writes. "... So I think we'll see two of the three looking more like themselves by the All-Star break, with one giving Cubs fans severe agita by the deadline."
Weaver is predicting that two of Bregman, Swanson, and Crow-Armstrong will figure things out offensively from now until the All-Star break.
Between these three stars, which of the two is the most likely to turn things around? Bregman is the most obvious one, as he has a .699 OPS this season and was an All-Star last season.
Crow-Armstrong is the other most likely one to turn things around, as he had 31 homers and a .768 OPS last season. While his strikeout struggles, with 155 last year, were a problem, his offensive performance was good enough to give confidence.

But Swanson, who has a .621 OPS this season (the lowest of these three stars), is the one Cubs fans should be most worried about. His .717 OPS last season was already not that great, and this season he's struggling a lot more than the other two stars.
Weaver is predicting that two of these hitters will turn things around, and the other will continue to be a problem. Most likely, PCA and Bregman right the ship while Swanson's struggles continue.
But, while this prediction would mean one player struggles this season, being able to get better production from two of these three hitters would be worth the third struggling. It's a trade-off, but one the Cubs should be okay making.
