We all know the Los Angeles Dodgers will make moves at the trade deadline, and the only question now is who they'll try to trade for.
The Dodgers have continued to prove over the past few years that they're willing to do whatever it takes to improve their roster on both sides of the baseball, and with Andrew Friedman in charge, there's absolutely no debate that he's going to look to get this team better. The Dodgers have a very good farm system and are still in a position to make nearly any trade they want, so long as teams are still willing to trade with them.
One name in particular that will continue to come up is Tarik Skubal, the best starter in baseball. The Dodgers can put together a very compelling package for the Detroit Tigers ace, though one writer recently noted that, for this deal to get done, they'll likely have to include River Ryan.
“That said, Ryan is back in the swing of things this season, with a stellar 2.81 ERA and 21 strikeouts across 16.0 innings in Triple-A. The underlying metrics are pretty, and while that's a small sample size, Ryan's talent has never really been a point of debate. Skubal himself was something of a late bloomer, and this is a case where Detroit shouldn't let the age scare them. Ryan can start games for Detroit as soon as the trade is processed,” Christopher Kline wrote.
Ryan has been very good over the past few years, even making four starts in Major League Baseball with a 1.33 ERA.
Unfortunately, the 27-year-old just doesn't have that many chances to get back on the big league roster at the moment because of how good the Dodgers are. As a result, there really isn't much of a reason to even consider keeping him around unless Los Angeles thinks he can crack its roster in the near future.
