First signing
Everything now appears set for Ederson to become the first signing of the Michael Carrick era. Heading into the summer transfer window, bolstering the midfield is believed to be United’s priority.
A number of targets are under consideration, including Ederson. With his contract at Atalanta set to expire next summer, the Italian side are keen to avoid losing him on a free transfer. Consequently, this summer offers the optimal opportunity to maximise the financial return from his departure.
It’s said that Ederson made it clear to his agent that he not interested in any other club aside from United. An agreement over personal terms is believed to be in place between United and the player’s camp.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Red Devils are just one step away from striking a deal with Atalanta.
The Mirror have now confirmed as much, further indicating that the Brazilian is in line to pocket £75k-a-week at Old Trafford. The newspaper has also revealed what Carrick truly thinks of Ederson.
Carrick’s Ederson stance
According to The Mirror, “Michael Carrick’s promotion to the role of permanent manager also sped up the process, once the United boss evaluated the merits of a move.”
“Carrick is said to like how versatile Ederson can be and doesn’t view him as a like-for-like Casemiro replacement. He’s comfortable in a holding midfield role, or one more advanced up the pitch.”
However, Ederson is expected to encounter a significant obstacle immediately upon setting foot at United.
The Mirror notes that his favourite number is 13, which is the date of his wife’s birthday (July 13). He is superstitious about it, but the number is currently held by Patrick Dorgu.
Ederson asked to sport the number 13 shirt when he joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022.
Other midfielders that United are closely tracking include Mateus Fernandes, Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali.
