Barcelona already have €100m bid on the table for superstar forward

Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez appears to be more serious than many initially believed, with fresh reports claiming that the Catalan giants have already taken concrete action to bring the Argentine forward to Spotify Camp Nou.

According to information emerging from Mundo Deportivo, sources close to Barcelona have confirmed that the club formally submitted an offer to Atletico Madrid for Alvarez.

The proposal, worth €100 million, was sent directly to Atletico sporting director Mateu Alemany via email.

The development is significant because Atletico had previously denied receiving any official offer for the Argentine international.

However, the latest information suggests that Barcelona’s proposal did indeed exist, even if the situation was later overshadowed by the public statements and responses coming from the Madrid-based club.

Barcelona remain hopeful

Barcelona’s position throughout the saga has been calm, as the club is not looking to create tension with Atletico Madrid or engage in a public dispute over the matter.

Instead, the Blaugrana view the situation as a normal transfer market operation, similar to many negotiations that take place every summer.

What Barcelona are making clear, however, is that their interest in Alvarez is genuine.

The next move now belongs to Atletico Madrid. The Spanish capital club can choose whether to respond to the proposal or simply stand by their current position regarding the player’s future.

For now, Alvarez’s desire is to join Barcelona and the Argentine is understood to have communicated his intentions through his representative, Fernando Hidalgo, who has already held discussions with Barcelona officials regarding a potential transfer.

On the other hand, Atletico Madrid remain in a strong position, as Alvarez is under contract until 2030, while his €500 million release clause gives the club complete control over the situation.

Hence, there is no obligation for Atletico to negotiate if they do not wish to.

Nevertheless, the fact that Barcelona have made a formal offer and that Alvarez is interested in the move means this story is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
