Barcelona yet to make a move for teenage winger despite Laporta, Deco meeting with agents

One of Barcelona’s priorities, over the years, has been monitoring young talents across the globe and possibly securing them for the long-term. After all, the Catalans have always been a party to having their stars young and trained at home.

One player who they have been monitoring along the same lines in recent years is Cardoso Valera, the teenage winger of Dinamo Zagreb, whom Barcelona have been constantly maintaining an eye on.
Such was the confidence in the player that the Catalans had all the foundations ready to sign him for the future. The summer is here, but no movement has been made as of now.
Laporta meets Varela’s agent
As reported byMundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Joan Laporta met the agents of the left winger and conversed for about four hours just days ago, looking to finalise the next step in his story.

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco was also present at the meeting, but nothing fruitful came of the discussion. There appears to be no offer from Barcelona’s side at this point.
The Catalans initially rated the player very highly and were monitoring his progression over the past year with great enthusiasm. His prominence in the senior Dinamo Zagreb side and Portugal national youth team squads at just 17 years handed out great promise.
His relatively poor form with just three goal contributions in 27 games last season, however, may well have pulled the plug on the deal as matters stand.

What’s next for Varela?
As it stands, Varela’s future remains a complete grey area as Dinamo Zagreb refuse to guarantee his continuity and Porto appear unwilling to sign him back as well.
With Barcelona seemingly closing doors, the player appears to be staring at a dead end.
He is expected to be available for a fee of close to €5 million in the summer and it remains to be seen if any team enters the race for him with purpose.
There have been meetings with Barcelona’s hierarchy including Laporta, Deco and even Andy Bara who is the agent of Dani Olmo and Joan Garcia. His story, however, remains a mystery.
