Suspended Toronto cop charged with sexual offences involving girl

Toronto Police are attempting to boot a constable from the force after he was charged Thursday by the province’s cop watchdog with sexual offences involving a female youth.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit said the alleged incidents happened in Toronto between September and December of last year and that the accused was arrested Thursday morning at their headquarters in Mississauga.
“The director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has reasonable grounds to believe a Toronto Police Service officer committed criminal offences against a female youth,” spokesperson Kristy Denette said in a news release.
Accused released on several conditions
Const. Parsa Hazeri, 27, has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, transmitting sexually explicit material to a person under the age of 16, communicating with a person under the age of 16 for the purpose of facilitating an offence, breach of trust and careless handling of a firearm.
The SIU said Hazeri was held for a bail hearing before being released on several conditions, including that he not communicate directly or indirectly with the alleged victim.
“As the matter is before the courts and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will not provide further comment on the investigation,” Denette said.

Police say Hazeri already suspended
Toronto Police said in a statement that they became aware of a complaint against Hazeri, who works in 33 Division and has three years of service, in January and “immediately” notified the SIU.
“The same day, the officer was suspended in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act, removed from operational duties and had his police authorities revoked,” the statement said.
The statement also said that after the charges were laid, Chief Myron Demkiw began proceedings to terminate Hazeri’s employment and served him with a pay suspension notice.
An email seeking a comment from the Toronto Police Association was not immediately returned.
