Elmo doubles down on NBA Finals tweet that infuriated Knicks fans

New York looks to take a 2-0 NBA Finals lead over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night before the series flips to Madison Square Garden, but to the chagrin of Knicks fans, they don't have everyone's favorite NYC resident in their corner.

Elmo made the ill-advised decision to wade into the NBA Finals discourse with a post on X (formerly Twitter) in which he rode the fence and refused to reveal who he's rooting for in Game 2, simply posting on Wednesday, "Elmo hopes both teams have fun!"

Wrong move, Elmo.

Knicks fans were (understandably) upset that the Sesame Street star isn't supporting his hometown team, and they let him have it in the replies. However, instead of reversing course, Elmo doubled down on his neutrality in a post on Friday.

"KNICKS that last message! Elmo didn’t mean to SPUR you on!" the post read

Naturally, it didn't go over too well.

New York is playing in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 and is seeking its first championship since 1973. A win on Friday would put the Knicks in a good position to accomplish that feat, but they may have to do so without Elmo's support.
