The 47-year-old got his marching orders last weekend having failed to convince Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes in his end-of-season review.
The Reds entered the 2025/26 season as runaway favourites to defend their Premier League title - adding £450m worth of talent in the summer transfer window.
But Slot slumped from top spot to FIFTH - enduring humiliation in both domestic cups along the way.
Liverpool only managed to secure Champions League football on the final day of the season and that didn’t bode well for the Dutchman’s prospects.
Harvey Elliott wants a second chance
Accordingly the decision was made to curtail his spell one year out from the expiration of his contract. Liverpool will pay around £7m in compensation and a replacement has been quickly sourced.
Andoni Iraola is finalising his appointment as Liverpool head coach and big changes are coming to Anfield this summer.
Iraola, 43, may opt to take a closer look at players passed over by Slot - and according to a report in Sports Boom Harvey Elliottbelieves he’s got a chance.
Elliott, 23, endured a torrid spell on loan at Aston Villa - who declined to purchase the England under-21 midfielder for £35m on a permanent deal.
Following a campaign in the wilderness the playmaker returns to the AXA Training Centre with one year left on his contract.
Elliott wants to stay at Liverpool
Although it’s been mooted that Richard Hughes would listen to bids of around £30m for the versatile midfielder Elliott wants to stay and fight for a role in Iraola’s lineup.
“Harvey Elliott is determined to drag himself back from the football wilderness after Arne Slot's shock Liverpool exit handed him a surprise Anfield lifeline,” the report reads.
“The Reds still regard the former Fulham youngster as a valuable asset and, with a new manager set to arrive following Slot's departure, Elliott believes he has a genuine opportunity to force his way back into first-team plans rather than seek a permanent move elsewhere.”
Clubs from around the Premier League - most prominently Leeds United - have been linked with a move for Elliott. Overseas interest comes from RB Leipzig - who could not agree terms with Liverpool over a permanent fee last summer.
