WR Collects Over ₹50 Crore As Fine Through Intensive Ticket Checking Drives During The Period From April To May 2026

Western Railway has continued its remarkable performance in Ticket Checking by generating revenue of ₹50.33 crore during the period from April to May 2026 through intensive ticket checking drives conducted across its network. The revenue collection marks an increase of almost 16% over the corresponding period last year, when ₹43.54 crore was realized.

In order to ensure hassle-free and comfortable travel for passengers and to curb the menace of ticketless and irregular travel, intensive ticket checking drives are carried out continuously over Mumbai suburban services, Mail/Express trains, passenger trains as well as holiday special trains. The highly motivated Ticket Checking team, under the supervision of Senior Commercial Officers of Western Railway, conducted extensive drives across the network during April and May 2026. As a result, over 6.80 lakh ticketless and irregular passengers, including unbooked luggage cases, were detected, resulting in a penalty collection of ₹50.33 crore.

According to a press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Shri Vineet Abhishek, during the month of May 2026 alone, 3.21 lakh ticketless and irregular passengers were detected, generating revenue of around ₹23 crore.

To prevent unauthorized travel in AC suburban local trains, focused and surprise ticket checking drives were also carried out regularly. During the period from April to May 2026, over 32,600 cases were detected in AC local trains, resulting in a penalty collection of around ₹1 crore. This collection is almost 190% higher than the corresponding period last year, when ₹34.90 lakh was recovered. In the Mumbai Suburban section of Western Railway, over 2.20 lakh ticketless and irregular passengers were detected during April–May 2026, resulting in a penalty collection of around ₹11.80 crore.

These impressive results highlight the sustained efforts and dedication of Western Railway's Commercial Department in minimizing revenue leakage, ensuring passenger discipline and safeguarding railway revenue.
