Adam Schefter: "More likely than not" Aaron Donald un-retires for 2026

· Yahoo Sports

Fans of the Seattle Seahawks, as well as other NFC West teams, might be losing sleep this coming season when it comes to the Los Angeles Rams. Not only do the Rams have elite defensive end Myles Garrett, who was acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, but the true nightmare scenario might become reality: the return of Aaron Donald.

The minute the Rams got Garrett to beef up their defensive line, folks immediately started speculating if Donald - who retired during the 2024 offseason - might be tempted to reverse his retirement status due to this news. NFL insider Jordan Schultz has reported Donald is apparently "flirting" with the possibility of returning. Now, another top reporter is throwing fuel to the fire.

ESPN's Adam Schefter spoke on a podcast hosted by Ty Schmit that he feels it is "more likely than not" that Aaron Donald returns. Schefter was adamant this was his own personal opinion on the matter. He affirms he has not spoken with anyone in the Rams organization, but he believes the temptation to play with Garrett on such a stacked roster will be too great an opportunity for Donald to pass up. Especially considering Super Bowl LXI will be held at SoFi Stadium, which was the site where Donald won his first Super Bowl ring.

Schefter's full comments on the topic can be seen below.

Aaron Donald was a terrifying force who tormented the Seahawks for years. In 18 career games against Seattle, Donald recorded 41 solo tackles and 15.5 sacks. He was even responsible for breaking Russell Wilson's finger in 2021, causing him to miss three games which helped to derail Seattle's season.

However, it should be noted that Donald is currently 35 years old and is two years removed from football. While he has likely remained in top physical condition, there is a considerable difference between "staying in shape" vs "staying in FOOTBALL shape." Two years is a long time away from the game, especially at his age trying to return to his former self.

At least, this is the hope I am holding onto at this time...
