Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg once offered Husker football scholarship

Could Nebraska's basketball coach have been a Husker quarterback? During a recent interview on the Carriker Chronicles, Fred Hoiberg disclosed that he was offered a scholarship to play quarterback for then-football coach Tom Osborne.

Hoiberg would go on to play basketball at Iowa State from 1991 to 1995. He was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the 1995 NBA Draft.
He would also play for the Bulls and Timberwolves before going into coaching. Hoiberg has coached both in the NBA and the college ranks with the Chicago Bulls and Iowa State.
Hoiberg has been the head coach at Nebraska since 2019 and has a record of 112-115 in Lincoln. He is coming off a 28-7 season that saw Nebraska make the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
