How Jaguars' projected defensive depth chart changed after minicamp

· Yahoo Sports

Following three days of minicamp practices, let's put together a revised projection of what the Jacksonville Jaguars' depth chart looks like for the defense

Visit grenadier.co.za for more information.

As we mentioned when breaking down each positional depth chart on offense, what takes place in minicamp won't solely determine playing time and final roster decisions. Ultimatley, training camp and the preseason will carry the most weight.

That said, minicamp is a piece of that puzzle, and during these practices, there are players who stand out. The foundation for the start of training camp is laid during the offseason programs.

So with that in mind, here is an early guess on where things stand on defense.

Defensive end

  • DE Josh Hines-Allen
  • DE Travon Walker
  • DE Wesley Williams
  • DE Danny Striggow
  • DE Zach Durfee
  • DE BJ Green
  • DE Bryan Thomas Jr.
  • DE Quindarius Dunnigan

We know who the top two spots on the depth chart belong to, but after that, there's a lot of guesswork taking place right now. As a fourth-round pick, Williams gets the early DE3 nod -- the Jaguars will want to see what he can do, not to mention he brings a well-rounded skill set to this position, which will help earn more opportunities. I have Striggow at DE4 given his experience over Durfee and that he played more defensive snaps last season than Green.

Defensive tackle

  • DT Arik Armstead
  • DT DaVon Hamilton
  • DT Albert Regis'
  • DT Ruke Orhorhoro
  • DT Matt Dickerson
  • DT Quinton Bohanna
  • DT Keivie Rose
  • DT TJ Bollers
  • DT Jalen Hunt

The first five spots on the depth chart seem pretty straightforward.

Linebacker

  • Foye Oluokun
  • Ventrell Miller
  • Dennis Gardeck
  • Jack Kiser
  • Branson Combs
  • Jalen McLeod
  • Parker Hughes
  • Yasir Abdullah

The first three players listed are the starters when the Jaguars are in their base 4-3 look. Combs seems to be climbing the depth chart in Year 2, not only as a special teams contributor but on defense.

Cornerback

  • Travis Hunter
  • Montaric Brown
  • Jourdan Lewis
  • Jarrian Jones
  • Christian Braswell
  • Jabbar Muhammad
  • Keni-H Lovely
  • Presont Hodge
  • Devon Marshall

Hunter, Brown, and Lewis are the starters, with Jones first off the bench. Braswell began to emerge last season, while Muhammad has put together a very strong showing during offseason programs.

Safety

  • Eric Murray
  • Antonio Johnson
  • Caleb Ransaw
  • Jalen Huskey
  • Rayuan Lane
  • Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig
  • Trevian Thomas
  • Devin Neal

Murray and Johnson will start, while Ransaw seems to be the front-runner for the third safety role, which will see playing time in Anthony Campanile's defense. Huskey gets the nod right now over Lane, given his versatility, which could create more opportunities to help out defensively.
