According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, the team has made a decision about whether or not to part ways with the former All-Pro wideout after a tumultuous offseason in which Aiyuk took multiple shots at the team on social media.

“The San Francisco 49ers, after a protracted and personal battle with receiver Brandon Aiyuk, are finally prepared to move on from him, according to multiple league sources,” La Canfora wrote.

“… It’s been widely known throughout the league for quite some time that Aiyuk had no future with the 49ers, and any attempts to land anything for him have been undermined by his off-field behavior, including filming himself driving erratically and going well over the speed limit.”

One NFL executive agrees that the 49ers are finally ready to cut bait with the former first-round pick.

“I think they’re finally done with him,” an anonymous NFL exec told La Canfora.

Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million contract with the team two years ago. But San Francisco did not get its money’s worth as Aiyuk played just logged just 25 catches and 374 yards across seven games in 2024 before suffering a season-ending leg injury that kept him out the entire 2025 season as well.

The 49ers then voided Aiyuk’s guaranteed money last season, prompting the bad blood between the two sides to boil over. Aiyuk posted multiple videos on Instagram over the last few weeks taking shots at the team.

“You want to know why they really mad, though? They mad because they stupid,” Aiyuk said. “They dumb. They mad that they paid me $50 million in eight months and then voided my guarantees for 2027. And I’m about to be on a new team in 2027. They mad at themselves for real. They acting like they mad at me, but they stupid ass mad at themselves.”

Once the 49ers officially release Aiyuk, it’s expected he will sign with the Washington Commanders, where he’ll play with quarterback Jayden Daniels, his former teammate at Arizona State.
