Is a TMC Split Brewing as Rebel MPs Eye Merger with Tripura-Based NCPI?

A fresh political churn appears to be underway within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), with a group of dissident MPs reportedly preparing to align with the Tripura-based Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). Sources indicate that these rebel lawmakers are in advanced stages of coordination and could soon formalise their shift, marking a significant rupture within Mamata Banerjee’s party.

What makes the development politically significant is the reported understanding that these MPs may extend issue-based or direct support to the NDA in Parliament. They are also expected to stake claim to a portion of the TMC’s allocated speaking time, potentially triggering procedural and legal disputes within the House.

The move comes amid growing internal tensions within the TMC, driven by leadership disagreements, regional power struggles and dissatisfaction over organisational decisions. While the party leadership has not officially responded, the possibility of defections could affect the TMC’s parliamentary strength and broader Opposition unity.

If carried out, the move could provide the NDA with a tactical advantage in closely contested legislative situations, particularly in the Rajya Sabha.

Former West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay Clarifies

A news item concerning me has been forwarded to me from several sources. I am shocked by the complete untruthfulness of the report. Yours is an esteemed media platform, and I assure you that what I am stating is factually correct and true.

I served as Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal and, after retirement, as an Adviser to the Chief Minister. These were purely bureaucratic assignments, and I have always remained a professional civil servant with no interest or involvement in politics. I have never had any partisan loyalty or political activity, nor shall I have any in future. I do not render political service to any politician and never will.

I shall be grateful if my version is prominently published across your various platforms.

With sincere regards,

Is India Signalling Tibet Sensitivity as New Envoy Vikram Doraiswami Visits Lhasa?

India’s newly appointed Ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, has undertaken his first official visit to Tibet, a move being viewed as a calibrated diplomatic signal amid a tentative improvement in bilateral ties.

Doraiswami, who assumed charge in Beijing last month and is known for his proficiency in Mandarin, arrived in Lhasa on Thursday, according to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy.

The visit was officially described as a review of arrangements for Indian pilgrims travelling to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. However, sources suggest that it also carries broader strategic significance, subtly underscoring India’s sensitivities regarding Tibet while reflecting efforts by both sides to stabilise relations after the prolonged military standoff along the Line of Actual Control.
