Shiv Sena (Uddhav BalasahebThackeray) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against six of its Lok Sabha MPs after they failed to attend a parliamentary party meeting in New Delhi on Thursday, The New Indian Express reported.

The MPs facing action for violating the party whip are Nagesh Aashtikar, Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Sanjay Dina Patil, Omprakash Rajenimbalkar and Bhausaheb Wakchaure.

The party has issued notices to the six MPs and given them seven days to respond, failing which it may take disciplinary action.

Of the party’s nine Lok Sabha MPs, only three attended the parliamentary meeting in Delhi.

Those present were Arvind Sawant, Anil Desai and Rajabhau Waze and the party’s lone Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut.

Raut said the meeting had been convened by Sawant, the party’s leader in Lok Sabha and Desai, the chief whip.

He held that the absence of the six MPs would be treated as disobedience of party instructions.

“The show-cause notices would be issued to them, and they will be asked to explain their conduct and why they were absent from the meeting and why no action should be taken against them,” The New Indian Express quoted Raut as saying.

Raut also indicated that the party could seek cancellation of their membership at a later stage.
