Father’s Day Sweep over the Giants Keeps Marlins Moving

The Miami Marlins pulled off a 2-1 win on Father’s Day making it a special moment shared by the fathers and sons in the organization, because it came on a day meant to celebrate the relationship between a father and a child.

“It was good, especially on a day like today,” Lake Bachar said after completing the sweep of the San Francisco Giants.

Bachar would also talk about his late dad, saying, “My Dad and I got two sons, so it just is a great Father's Day”

Bachar lost his father, David Bachar, early in 2022 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

For Bacher, it's fitting that his first save comes on Father's Day, giving him another moment to celebrate the relationship he had with his father. It only took Bacher 11 pitches to earn the save after walking Rafael Davis to start the inning. Of those 11 pitches, six were for strikes.

The 2026 season has been one filled with one special moment after another for the Marlins,

The Marlins' ace and starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara recorded his 1,000th strikeout as a Marlin. Max Meyer surpassed Dontrelle Willis for the most consecutive wins to start a season, while Otto Lopez became the first player in the Major Leagues to reach 100 hits this season.

To top it off, the victory extended the team's home-winning streak at loanDepot Park to eight games, which is the longest in the history of the park.

Their latest moment, the home win streak, surpasses their two seven-game strings in June 2023 and May 2014.

The win also tied the Marlins for most victories at home in Major League Baseball. More importantly, the win improved the Marlins’ record to 40–38, moving them two games above .500 and within a half-game of the final Wild Card spot.

If you like offense, this wasn’t the game for you. The two teams combined for just seven hits and four walks; the Marlins accounted for five of those hits while drawing one base on balls.

Giants manager Tony Vitello never had to leave the dugout with starter Logan Webb working all eight innings. He threw 103 pitches in the game, 70 of them for strikes, allowing two earned runs off five hits. A statistical line that should have earned him the win, but instead he moves to 4-5 on the season.

Unlike Vitello, Miami manager Clayton McCullough had to make four trips to the mound to secure the win. Starter Ryan Gusto went four innings before the bullpen took over. Gusto threw 68 pitches, 41 of them for strikes, walked two and struck out six. The bullpen shut the door on the Giants offense, giving up one hit and a walk the rest of the game.

“Everyone's been working their butts off, and we just hand the ball to the next guy and get moving,” Bachar said when asked about the success of the bullpen this season.

Kyle Stowers led the Marlins offense, with two runs scored and an RBI on a walk and a home run. He led off the second inning with a solo shot to left field to make it 1-0. In the fourth inning, he earned a walk. The next batter, Lopez, drove him in on his 20th double of the year.

Now the Marlins get set for Monday night when the Texas Rangers and Tartan Army come to South Florida. The Marlins, being the hottest team in baseball, should have a buzz surrounding the game for their fans.

However, buzz around tomorrow's game belongs to the visiting Scots, who seem to be drawing most of the attention.
