Germany can tie long-standing record with win over Ecuador

The German national team extended their winning streak to 11 games with a 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, sealing their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Julian Nagelsmann’s team now have the chance to make history heading into their final group-stage game against Ecuador on Thursday.

If they win their 12th game in a row, they will equal the record for the longest winning streak in the history of the German national team, set between May 1979 and June 1980 with Jupp Derwall as coach.

Either way, Germany are certain to finish top of Group E, sitting first with six points and a goal difference of 9-2.
