Jones knows more than a little about situations like this. Plenty of his own scandals have come complete with extensive bodycam footage of the former light heavyweight and heavyweight champ blitzed out of his mind on alcohol.
“I have way too much trauma to consume alcohol, my brain simply can’t handle it anymore,” Jones wrote in 2021 after being arrested on suspicion of battering his fiance. “I will leave alcohol in my past forever. Turn this nightmare into the best thing to ever happen in my life.”
Jones has had several more alcohol-influenced moments since then, including a run-in with drug-testing agents and a phone call where he threatened to have a police officer killed. So when footage of Poirier verbally abusing airport staff and security came out, “Bones” reached out with condolences and advice.
Never say never, right now we are finishing up Gable‘s training camp. He’s looking extraordinary. I’ve been his main training partner, and I’m moving like I never left. 🤷🏾 stem cells must be working. https://t.co/jZReRFKUP2

“Wanted to write and tell my n–a Justin Poirier to keep your head up,” Jones wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Life happens. This too shall pass. Just keep yourself busy my man, it helps.
A fan asked Jones if he gave Poirier a ‘pass’ for using the N-word during the airport incident.
“Absolutely,” Jones replied. “Said that shit so smooth. I literally took zero offense.”
“I do respect the fact that he’s being honest about his mental state,” Jones added of the situation. “I swear in some weird way retiring from the UFC almost feels like retiring from the military or something. There’s so many similarities. I have conversations with my special forces buddies about this type of stuff all the time, it’s a huge change or at least it can be.”
And what Jon Jones news would be complete without some discussion of a possible comeback. When asked if he might fight again, Jones sounded optimistic.
“Never say never,” he wrote. “Right now we are finishing up Gable [Steveson]‘s training camp. He’s looking extraordinary. I’ve been his main training partner, and I’m moving like I never left. Stem cells must be working.”
