The week of June 21-27 saw high school baseball continue to thrive in the Ames area.

Ames went 6-1 during the week, with its only loss coming to Class 4A No. 1 Sioux City East. Gilbert split four games, with one of its losses coming at the hands of 3A No. 6 Carlisle and 3A No. 9 Ballard went 2-3 with two losses to North Polk and one setback against 4A No. 2 Indianola.

Roland-Story, the No. 2 team in 2A, ran its winning streak to 15 games, improving to 30-1 with six wins during the week. Nevada split four games, Collins-Maxwell went 3-1 and Colo-NESCO was 2-2.

There were several standout individual performances from area baseball players during the week.

Matt Zoz, Gilbert

Zoz played well in both games of Gilbert's 4-3, 5-1 doubleheader sweep over Adel-Desoto-Minburn on June 22 at Gilbert.

Zoz was 1-for-3 with an RBI and he went without an error at third base during the first game, He was the winning pitcher in the second outing, giving up one run on six hits with three strikeouts and walks apiece in five innings, and adding a single and two RBIs on offense.

Reece Blaisdell, Roland-Story

Blaisdell threw a five-inning no hitter during the 2A No. 2 Roland-Story baseball team's 10-0 victory over Saint Ansgar at the Waterloo Stadium Tournament in Waterloo on June 27.

Blaisdell struck out four batters and walked only two to earn the shutout. He also threw five strong innings in a 14-2 win at Grand View Christian on June 23, giving up two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and only one walk.

Erik Anderson, Ames

Anderson came up clutch during the Ames baseball team's 10-8 comeback win over Dowling Catholic on June 26 at Ames.

Anderson hit the go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning, and he finished the game 2-for-4 with two doubles, runs and RBIs apiece. Anderson went 10 for 15 with a double and nine RBIs in doubleheader sweeps over Marshalltown on June 22 in Ames and Waterloo East on June 24 at Waterloo.

Easton Bergmann, Collins-Maxwell

Bergmann pitched the Collins-Maxwell baseball team to two victories during the week.

The Spartan freshman threw four hitless innings and allowed one run with nine strikeouts and two walks in a 13-1 win over BCLUW on June 26 at Collins. He only gave up one run on one hit with 11 strikeouts and five walks in 4 2/3 innings during a 13-1 victory over Colo-NESCO on June 22 in Collins.

Bryce Miller, Ballard

Miller threw a strong game during Ballard's 5-1 victory over Bettendorf at the Prange Classic on June 27 at Indianola.

Miller went all seven innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Miller also had a big night hitting the ball during a 9-1 win over Boone on June 25 at Slater, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and two RBIs.
