Texas announced they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Ben Peoples from Triple-A Round Rock.

It was just two days ago that the Rangers acquired Peoples in a trade from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league catcher Ben Harti, so the young right-hander never actually appeared in a game for the Express.

In 29 appearances for Triple-A Charlotte in the Chicago organization, Peoples posted a 2.39 ERA in 37.2 innings. If he appears in a game for the Rangers, it will mark his major-league debut.

To make room for Peoples on the active roster. The Rangers have sent Winston Santos back to Round Rock.

Santos only appeared in one game with Texas, making his major-league debut on Wednesday against the Cleveland Guardians, throwing two innings and allowing two runs.

Additionally, the Rangers had three players reject assignments to Round Rock and elect free agency.

Right-handed pitchers Joe Ross, Chris Paddack, and outfielder Jarred Kelenic will all hit the open market.

In order to add to the Round Rock roster and the overall organizational depth, the Rangers announced they have signed right-handed pitcher Austin Voth and infielder Santiago Espinal to minor-league contracts.

As for Rangers injury updates, the team announced that left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery will make his third rehab start on Thursday.

Montgomery will start for the Express as they take on Albuquerque at Dell Diamond in Frisco. The veteran starter has pitched three scoreless frames across two rehab starts with Double-A Frisco this season.

Another left-handed starter also took a step toward his return as Cody Bradford threw a live-BP session at Globe Life Field on Thursday, facing a pair of Roughriders hitters.

Bradford will throw one more live BP before heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment soon.

For the first time since his ankle surgery, Jack Leiter played catch in the outfield during batting practice as he begins to work his way back.

On the position player side, Brandon Nimmo also played catch in the outfield and is on track to return this weekend. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Cody Freeman underwent surgery but could be back within a month.

The Rangers enter play on Thursday tied for first place in the American League West with a 44-43 record on the season.
