Rangers launch €4.5m bid for Partizan star, but Ibrox must tread carefully
Reports from Mozzart Sport suggest a formal written offer from Glasgow Rangers has dropped straight onto the doormat at Humska 1 for Ognjen Ugrešić. The numbers? A cool €4.5 million in cold, hard, upfront guaranteed cash. Rangers want this done quickly. They know Partizan Belgrade are staring down the barrel of strict UEFA monitoring deadlines and desperately need liquid capital before the Conference League qualifiers kick off. It is classic vulture capitalism in football boots.
Partizan executives, however, are digging their heels in. They think €4.5 million is a joke for a player of this calibre. The Serbian giants are holding out for something closer to €5.5 million, and they are demanding a massive future sell-on clause just to keep their daily operations afloat.

Ognjen Ugrešić and Vanja Dragojević have been the engine room for the black-and-whites, but it is Dragojević who has caught the eye. Still, breaking the bank for the 20-year-old midfielder feels entirely wrong for the Light Blues.
Derek McInnes has walked into a bit of a mess at Ibrox. The squad needs surgery across the board. Spending over €5m on a raw youngster from the Serbian top flight is a massive gamble. Yes, he is the vice-captain. Yes, he has a €15 million release clause that gives Partizan plenty of leverage. But the Scottish Premiership is a different beast entirely. It is loud, physical, and relentlessly quick. Youth prospects rarely hit the ground running in Glasgow. They get caught on the ball. They get bullied.
McInnes needs ready-made steel for this rebuild, not another project to nurse through the winter.
Blasting such a huge chunk of the summer budget on a single unproven midfielder completely ruins any chance of squad rotation elsewhere. If a bidding war starts, the price tag will just spin out of control. The recruitment team at Ibrox should pack their bags and look elsewhere in Europe. Walking away is just sensible business. Overpaying for potential usually ends with a manager getting the sack.
