What does the rest of the world think of Ryans among top-tier coaches? Is he still the head coach to beat in the AFC South or better yet, the AFC in general?
Saints Wire's Arye Pulli recently released an article ranking all 32 NFL head coaches. In the article, there was a list of criteria for building the ideal coach for the upcoming season, including things like identity, culture, development, and confidence level.
For Ryans, he graded out with a 44 out of 50, which ranks 4th among active coaches.
"Ryans has quickly built a strong identity in Houston," Pulli wrote. "His leadership and incredible defensive background make him one of the brightest young coaches. Still just 41, expect to see Ryans and the Texans in plenty of big games in the future. If Houston can nail down its quarterback situation behind CJ Stroud, it should be perennial Super Bowl threats for years to come."
Since entering the league, Ryans has averaged 10 wins per season. He's also guided the Texans to the postseason in all three years and has a .500 record. He's the fastest coach in franchise history to 30 wins and is already the all-time leader in playoff wins.
The three coaches listed ahead of Ryans? Kansas City's Andy Reid, San Francisco's Kyle Shanahan and Los Angeles' Sean McVay. Two coaches have won Super Bowls in the last five seasons while Shanahan has been to a pair of title games since taking over a decade ago.
